On my mind

Hey! Whoever is reading this I would just like to say I had a great time in this class. I did learn quite a bit about the French, thanks to Professor Matthews. Even though at first I thought the class would be horrible because we had to sing the first few classes, I kind of thought that is what Dr. F was going to have up do every time we talked about music. But over all this class was a good course to talk as a freshman and I ended up enjoying more than I thought I would.

  1. Ode to On My Mind

I have something on my mind that has been on my mind the entire class period. Over this period of time, I have learned a lot of information that I am very pleased with. It has opened my mind to all sorts of thing that I otherwise wouldn't have learned. What I am concerned with, though, is the fact that all those people we learned about all the way up until the 18th century were pretty much a result of their time. What do I mean by this? NONE OF THEM WOULD HAVE HAD ANYTHING TO DO WITH ME BECAUSE OF THE COLOR OF MY SKIN! It was hard throughout the class to care about somethings (depending on what mood I was in) because most of them thought little to nothing about having slaves. Even the ones that preached about anti-slavery or rights of the individual. For example, a father of United States, George Washington, had an overwhelming amount of slaves, but he talked about freedom from an oppressive monarchy. Washington Please. How can anyone have the audacity to talk about rights of humans, but then discredit a human of being a human? I just wanted to get this off my chest, because I can not believe some of the b.s. these philosophers, politicians, and leaders say when they themselves belittle other human beings. Even artist were a product of their time. It wasn't until neo-classical art that I saw a picture of anyone other than a white man, white woman or mythical creature. AND what was this person of color doing....CLEANING. No wonder we have race problems in America today, our grounds were bread by slaves, but ran by bigots.
